Job Brief
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the Principal. As a teacher at Promise – An International School, your work will cover responsibilities including and relating to classroom teaching of students and supervisory duties rostered for staff during the school day. In addition, from time to time, you will be expected to attend, help organise and participate in extra-curricular school-related activities and events out of school hours.
You will be expected to be professional in practice, demeanour, exemplary in character and behaviour. Your preparation, pedagogy, recording and reporting will be maintained in an organised, efficient, accurate and timely manner. You will be expected to be a good advertisement for the school, conveying to staff, parents, students and the public alike the professional image and standards that we as a School desire to project and maintain. Your appointment will be dependent on agreement with and commitment to support and put into practice the School Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics.
Responsibilities of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
- Planning. preparing and delivering lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
- Developing schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures
- Instructing and monitoring students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Using relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
- Managing student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in a way which facilitates learning and fosters mutual respect amongst teachers and students
- Maintaining discipline in accordance with the stated rules and behavior management system of the School
- Providing appropriate feedback on work
- Encouraging and monitoring the progress of individual students and using information to inform and adjust teaching strategies
- Maintaining accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
- Updating all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school practice
- Preparing required reports on students and activities
- Participating in department, school, and parent meetings
- Communicating necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
- Establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities
- Preparing classroom for class activities.
- Providing a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
- Observing and evaluating student’s performance and development
- Assigning and grading class work, homework, tests and assignments
Other requirements of the job include but are not limited to the following:
- Demonstrating preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
- Encouraging parent and community involvement, obtaining information for parents when requested, promptly returning phone calls and answering emails and school/parent communication in keeping with stated school policy
- Participating in appropriate professional activities
- Participating in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed by the Principal or delegated Head of School
- Other duties as assigned
- Certification in teaching in appropriate subject area from a recognised, accredited institution
- Holding a current membership or certification of a relevant accredited professional body
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English language
- Reporting to work on a regular and punctual basis.
- Performing all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program
